The Story

Where can you find community? Many people are searching for a group or a social circle that allows them to be themselves. They want a place where they can talk freely about things they enjoy. The rise of social media allowed people to come together even if they lived across the country. In recent years, things have changed. Mainstream social media has divided people into us vs. them. Users of the apps may not feel safe talking about the things they love because it branches off into politics or other divisive topics. Smoke and Bacon, a new social media app, seems to have found the answer.

Smoke and Bacon is a veteran-owned social media app that enables people to voice their opinion and share their points of view. While they allow people to be themselves, they solve the issue of divisive topics by having communities. The app’s focus on communities lets people join groups that can turn into their online families. There are groups for pirates, family matters, hunting, politics, women’s clubs, and more.

Lindsey Saxon was an advocate for creating the book club on the Smoke and Bacon App. The idea came to her during the pandemic, where she rediscovered her love for reading and wanted to share that with others. The app has a huge veteran base. While a book club may not seem like a community that veterans would join, it allowed many to find others who were also interested in reading.

The Smoke and Bacon communities allow users to focus on the things they love. It gives people the freedom to speak about the topics they are passionate about without going off on tangents that can cause arguments. If a user wants to talk about politics, there is a community for that. All political groups can discuss and debate policies, whether they are Democrats, Republicans, or everything in between. Once they leave the political community, the political conversation stops. When they enter another community, like the book community, they can focus on discussing the books that they both love.

The other great thing about communities on the app is the bonds that you can share with people. Lindsey stated, “With the Smoke and Bacon Community, it’s more of a one-on-one approach. You get to know people on a more personal level, especially with the involvement with the live streams and a lot of the self-business owners”. The focus on meeting people to form genuine bonds is what draws people to the app. In this day and age, people are looking to form connections. They are looking for people that they can relate to and share with.

The internet gives people the ability to interact globally. It opens the door to new possibilities and new people. While it is great that someone from California can connect with someone from Virginia, it can be difficult to find a social circle you can bond with. Smoke and Bacon makes it easier. The app allows you to connect with people who share similar hobbies with you even if you live 4,000 miles away.
